Evolution and Group Dynamics

The Sooke Scribblers are evolving into  Sooke Writers’ Collective with a new website in the works. The name is not quite permanent but the core of it will be the concepts of  “Sooke" and "Writers”. The group is for writers in any genre and  our intent is to provide community, support and writing practice for writers in the Sooke region (East Sooke, Sooke, Otter Point, and Shirley). We will also be carrying on the long standing Scribblers' tradition of hosting a writing contest for students of Edward Milne Community School. One of the ways we raise money for the contest prizes is to create and sell an anthology of works by group members. This year we will be adding the work of the contest winners as well. Our publication date is May 1st and we are well on the way to writing and editing our pieces for the anthology.  The books should be available after May 1st.

Currently we meet in the Sooke Library on the third Wednesday of the month making Feb 19th the next meeting (6:30 to 8pm). All writers welcome though we have to limit membership to adults. We also have additional meetings in local coffee shops from time to time for writing feedback sessions.

Keep returning to this site for news of the collective's new website, membership information and anthology development.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, Jan 15th

The next meeting of the Sooke Scribblers will be Wednesday, January 15th at the Sooke Library.

All writers welcome. If you want to see what we do and what our big plans are for 2014 please attend and/or sign up for notices from this website.

We are  currently undergoing a metamorphosis, growing out of "Sooke Scribblers" and into something more along the lines of "Sooke Writers' Collective".

Upcoming events:  an anthology of writing from the collective including the winners of the 2014 Edward Milne Community School writing contest which our group hosts this spring.

Stay tuned for more news.
